URAHARA Episode 2: Sugar Dome

This episode was easier to follow as the amount of information wasn’t as abundant as in the premiere.

Sugar Dome.jpg

Sugar dome thing.

After wishing for a way to protect Harajuku from the Scoopers and the missile a giant parfait appeared. However, along with that came a giant dome that covered all Harajuku. Our heroines wished to keep their city safe from harm and that’s where the dome came in.

Mari losing it.jpg

Mari losing it.

With everything that happened so far Mari, still uneasy from the previous episode, was close to losing her mind. Her sarcasm levels went through the roof and her sanity was slowly draining. Thankfully Kotoko and especially Rito were there to ease her worries.

Rito trying to cut the wall.

Unfortunately the dome not only interfered with all electrical devices but kept everyone outside of Harajuku, including our heroines’ families, from getting in. Rito tried cutting the wall but to no avail due to it regenerating after her attack.

Mari holding onto Rito.jpg

Rito’s coolness attracts both Kotoko and Mari to her.

Mari, still panicking, held on to Rito as the gang tried finding a way out by going through the subway when suddenly the power came back on. Very mysterious.

Outside of the subway they ran into Rito’s cat friend. When she tried communicating with it it hissed at Misa and/or Ebifuruya, further raising suspicions toward the two from many viewers.

Donuts are edible.jpg

The donuts are edible.

Mari worried there wouldn’t be anything to eat in the dome but it turned out that the donuts that the Scoopers turned into after being defeated by our heroines were edible. Suddenly the Scoopers began blowing their way into the dome. The trio transformed to take them on once more.

Pink barrier.jpg

Pink Barrier.

Before the Scoopers could break in the dome responded to our heroines’ desire to protect their town and covered all Harajuku in some kind of pink barrier. Ebifuruya explained that they shifted the inside of the dome to hyperspace, or the titular URAHARA as it were.

Giant Scooper.jpg

Giant corn-shaped Scooper.

The second wave of Scoopers broke in, led by what could only be described as a giant multiple eyed mutant corn giant with a vacuum mouth.

Rito saving Mari.jpg

Rito saves Mari,

It was a tough adversary. Rito even had to save Mari from a giant body slam but with perseverance and Kotoko’s analysis they were able to defeat it. Of the two girls who want Rito’s taco I like Mari best. Still best girl for me despite her complaining because said complaining didn’t come off as annoying to me. Anyway, there was interesting part where Ebifuruya referred to the giant as an old friend and also said its sacrifice wasn’t in vain after its defeat.

Strange people.jpg

Strange people.

With the 2nd Scooper wave beaten our heroines took a breather but were then greeted by people who were acting very strangely. We’ll see what that’s all about next time.

    Such a great OT3 ❤

Also, I am still trusting in the loli. For one, her reactions to the shrimp were of someone who has no clue what said shrimp is talking about. For two, she’s a cute loli.

Quite the cliffhanger, but this show continues being pretty great ~

The potential for an OT3 is still certainly there, but I agree with you that for at least the moment, I find Rito x Mari to be stronger and so they’re my fav ship. Rito is still best girl for me though, but Mari is probably 2nd. I’m still not sold on those other two being trustworthy, but I guess all will be revealed in time. Interesting episode and definitely looking forward to more.

This show has me hooked. I was waiting all week for the new episode.

Mari and Rito definitely have a closeness with each other that Kotoko doesn’t quite share, demonstrated when Rito explains why Kotoko should watch over Mari.

Our heroines seem to have some unconscious control over the barrier, which is why it started letting electricity and radio waves in. They’re also somewhat in control over the food created by their powers, with the donuts and parfait last episode, and the popcorn (for watching Gone with the Wind) this episode.

I wasn’t 100% where I stood on Misa before, but now I’m convinced she’ll join the others once she realizes Fried Shrimp the talking fried shrimp can’t be trusted.

Back to impatiently waiting a week for another episode.

Mari has the advantage so far.

Yes. That’s what it looks like so far. It’s that powerful imagination that the Scoopers crave.

Fried Shrimp the talking fried shrimp is evil. Still not convinced Misa is a babyface being manipulated yet.

I liked this ep more than the opener as, like you said at the outset, it was easier to follow and wasn’t so sensory overload. I can safely say I’m warning up to this show now and while it’s still in the 3 ep trial period, it’s looking more and more like it’ll pass. Also, after 2 eps Mari is still my favorite.

I’m still not entirely sure where the ships will go at this point, I’m leaning towards OT3, but that depends on how things go later-on, obviously.

I have a theory, the people seen at the end of the episode aren’t zombies per-se, but they’re reduced to a mindless state due to their culture being taken away by the scoopers in some kind of cliche alien abduction sketch, after all, isn’t being zombified/reduced to a non-cognitive state the minimum cultural standard for being alive?

Either way, I think I’ll stick this one until the end unless they pull a Pleiades or some shit, that”s really the only thing that could ruin it for me.

keeping a talking fried shrimp around could be useful as “emergency rations”, much like how Excel keeps Menchi around.
