Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid OVA: Valentine Onsen

A Valentine’s Day and onsen segment in one episode. HYPE!

Tohru's plan.jpg

Tohru’s plan.

We joined Tohru cooking some Valentine’s Day chocolate for her beloved Miss Kobayashi. Tohru figured that after meeting her parents she was one step closer to achieving her dream but felt like she had the right to…shall we say, skip a few steps.

Miss Kobayashi not having it.jpg

Miss Kobayashi doesn’t like cheaters.

Unfortunately it looked like Tohru’s plan had failed. More on that in a bit.

Riko giving Kanna Valentine’s chocolate.

On to our adorable little lovebirds Riko was pumped to give Kanna some sugar. Unfortunately her plan was ruined because of everyone being so friendly to Kanna.

Riko's reward.jpg

Riko’s reward.

Still from the looks of it and based on their relationship I think Kanna deep down got the message Riko was trying to convey so it wasn’t a failure after all.

Valentine Broskis.jpg

Even the broskis got into some Valentine’s action.

After a long day’s work and many Valentine’s appreciation chocos Miss Kobayashi returned to a still hungry for chocos Kanna. She found a particular chocolate hidden in the sink drawer and since Miss Kobayashi knew Kanna wasn’t as devious as Tohru she let her guard down and almost got into some serious trouble. She fled to her room and tried figuring out what was happening with her, thinking about never having had a happy Valentine’s among other things.

Did Tohru live her dream?

…On to the onsen part of the episode!

Miss Kobayashi as a dragon.jpg

Lucoa imagining Miss Kobayashi’s dragon form.

While in the onsen and envying the dragon women’s assets Miss Kobayashi asked them why their human forms look the way they do. They explained it was because of an “ideal/idea” that would best reflect what they’d look like as humans. Basically Plato’s theory. Look it up. The three then imagined what Miss Kobayashi would look like as a dragon to mixed results.

After some more fun times Tohru invited Miss Kobayashi for a walk. She then executed her “Plan B” as it were.

Very lewd.jpg

Very lewd. I hope children aren’t reading this blog.

Keep it up Tohru. One step at a time.

In case readers were wondering why they went to the onsen, it was because Mr Otaku was took advantage of a cancellation by another group and invited his homies along to have a good time. That’s it. Mr Fafnir was puzzled throughout the trip and once Mr Otaku explained his reasoning he was cool with it.

Elma about to make some chocos for everyone.jpg

Elma about to make chocolate for everyone.

For readers wondering why I didn’t go into detail about Elma, Lucoa and the shota named Shouta it’s because all there was to say about Elma was that she looked cute and sexy eating a lot and challenging Tohru to competitions whereas Lucoa and Shouta were doing their usual thing and I didn’t particularly for that.

Good OVA overall.

Really cute and gay episode. Kobayashi and Tobru are such a cute couple and I hope that one day they do kiss. OG you forgot one of the best parts of the episode at the end where Kobayashi lets Tohru sleep on her lap.

The Valentine’s Day segment was an adaptation of chapter 10 of the manga, whilst the onsen segment was chapter 33.
In the manga, Tohru actually gave the chocolate with the love potion in to Kanna, because it wouldn’t have any affect on her. Also, Miss Kobayashi ended up stripping Tohru out of her maid outfit, but what happened after that is left to the imagination.

It was only Miss Kobayashi, Takiya and the dragons who went to the hot spring in the manga – Riko and Shouta weren’t present for chapter 33. Events pretty much still played out the same either way, though the hand-holding wasn’t in the manga. Anything involving Riko was a bonus, and I thought that small scene between Takiya and Shouta was nice.
I guess it is also worth mentioning that the manga also shows Tohru’s breasts uncensored.

A fun episode all round that faithfully adapts chapters from the manga and expands on them in a neat way.

Gay dragons still at their finest. I really missed them. Nice to see our ships are still going and getting stronger every moment that passes. Still hoping for a second season one day.

Valentine’s is spelled wrong just above the “Did Tohru live her dreams?” picture.

For a while TOOOOOOOHRUUUUU’s (I’m pretty sure that’s how you spell it) feelings seemed one sided, but there have been a few moments that confirm Miss Kobayashi is clearly in love, but bad at expressing it. Just admit TOOOOOOOHRUUUUU looks good in her cosplay maid outfit.

  6. Another brilliant episode. Though, in addition to the things already mentioned, I thought the ping pong segment was also great, especially the Kanna vs Riko part of such.

    • Also, the discussion/explanation for the dragon’s humanoid forms does bring more clarity to the question of “will Kanna still be little even when Riko is all grown up”, I guess.

In a way, if it is based on something similar to Pluto’s theory of “Ideas” and “Forms” and such, since the manifestations of the dragon’s human forms are indeed “manifestations” and not the “real” thing, then Kanna’s form could perhaps change that way…

…or, perhaps, if the “idea” of Kanna changes slightly, would then her humanoid form also change? (Though this seems unlikely, given that Plato’s “ideas” are unchanging, but do all parts of Plato’s theory apply here or merely the framework of it?)

I believe Kanna’s human form will grow up alongside Riko. Lucoa also said when Miss Kobayashi brought up the Plato “idea” “Yeah. Something like that.”

How I missed this show. I can’t get enough of Kanna. She sure is popular. And Tohru might seemed dangerous with her love potion, but when it comes to the real thing she can be very shy. I love that about her. Still hoping for second season.

They made an OVA? Awesome! I really enjoyed this series. Given Kana’s appetite I bet she was overjoyed at receiving so many sugary treats from her classmates.

Riko x Kanna still cutest ship! 👭

I get that when Mr. Otaku puts on his glasses he looks nerdier… but where did those buck teeth come from all of a sudden? 😕
