Hina Logi: From Luck & Logic Episode 11: Happy Holidays Indeed

This episode…THIS FREAKIN’ EPISODE! We thought the last one was BEST EPISODE EVAH…Welp…

Nina about to enjoy her freedom.jpg

My face after watching this episode.

An unexpected guest.jpg

An unexpected guest.

The episode started with most of our heroines going home to spend New Year’s with their parents except Nina and one more person she didn’t expect. As the first pic showed Nina was getting ready to cut loose and get down with her giddy self before finding out that her girlfriend also stayed at the dorms.

Nina about to laugh out loud.jpg

Nina almost letting her giddy side slip.

After being convinced by Lion to relish the wonders of the kotatsu with Belle and her she tried her best to hold back her “giddyness”. The two were chatting about the fun times to be had on New Year’s Eve. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. A package had arrived. Neither of the two wanted to get off the kotatsu so they had a “face-off” to decide who would.

Nina's funny face.jpg

Nina won with zero effort. She’s THAT DARN GOOD at “face-off”, much to her own surprise.

Mahiro's parents

I don’t recall seeing Mahiro’s parents before this but here they are.

Yuko's mom.jpg

I don’t know whether to call Mizuki’s determination creepy or admirable. Maybe a bit of both. Poor dear. Oh and of course Yuko’s mom looks hot. No surprise there.

Teachers enjoying their time together.jpg

More on these two later.

So the clock was about to strike twelve and LioNina went to the balcony to welcome it. And then this happened…

Lion kisses Nina.jpg

It actually happened.

According to Lion it’s a Liones Kingdom tradition on New Year’s Eve to kiss the person you care about most at the stroke of midnight. You people have no idea how hard I “squeed”.

NO. FREAKIN’. IDEA!

BUT WAIT! It’s not over yet!

The girls baking valentine's chocolate.jpg

Our heroines baking Valentine’s Chocolate.

From New Year’s we skipped ahead to Valentine’s day as Yuko, Yayoi and Lion were baking Valentine’s chocolate, Lion’s reason being EXACTLY what you hope it was. Unfortunately Lion got too excited and accidentally damaged the little oven. Yuko knew who to call for help…

Mahiro's latest invention.jpg

You’d think after 11 episodes our heroines would have learned their lesson…

So Mahiro was called in and it went exactly as we all expected it would.

Nina's Cupid Arrow.jpg

Before things got way out of hand a Cupid Arrow saved the day. Only one of our heroines Tranced with an archer themed Foreigner so yes it was her who fired it. So all was well and Lion got to give her special chocolate to her special someone. After one bite though…

Nina and Lion magic

Oh my…

This one pic DOES NOT DO WHAT HAPPENED JUSTICE!

Yayoi's harem.jpg

Yayoi’s harem confirmed.

Of course best girl wasn’t left out. Not only did MahiYoi shippers get an amazing treat but it was confirmed once and for all that Karin and Karen’s feelings for best girl were what we all hoped they were. Mahiro was the only one who took a bite, you see.

Yuko took the last cupcake to dispose of it when…

Mizuki's confession.jpg

This scene went exactly as people who know the relationship between the two went…

So time passed and the Cupid Cupcakes’ effect wore off.

Mahiro enjoying Yayoi's hair

Rather than just MahiYoi I much prefer the Yayoi harem but I imagine Mahiro is everyone’s #1 for her.

True love between Logicalists.jpg

True love between Logicalists.

Teachers' Valentine's.jpg

Teachers’ Valentine’s,

Last but least we have the teachers’ “tales of the bar”. I’m still hoping against all odds we get the “Eh. Screw men. All we need is each other” ending for their story. This latest chapter gave me a glimmer of hope it can still happen. I’m not holding my breath but there’s still hope…

Rory. It’s that time again. Get over here.

I never though that cute girls shows could go this far with yuri. The best ep. of summer season for Nation so far.

    THIS FREAKING EPISODE indeed.

You know, I went to all the mainstreams sites I could find to see their reaction to the kiss, and I’m disappointed that almost nobody is watching it, only like 5 reactions on MAL, and TvTropes doesn’t even have a page for this show, only a little mention in the original Luck & Logic page.

I feel this show should be universally watched, it’s really too bad it’s not that popular. At least most of the yuri community is enjoying it.

with every darn scene I had to pause. walk outside and scream. then walk back in to continue watching. because I honestly didn’t expect those scenes to happen with this show

and I had to watch it.. TWICE

Before watching this episode I was sad cos I realized it’s already episode 11. But then they gave me this! I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. It was a perfect episode.

    Oh, I have been summoned.
Without a doubt, this is my favourite episode of this show. It was just utterly delightful. I’ve said it before, but this season has been a real treat. Yayoi’s harem is nice, but Lion and Nina have ventured straight into OTP territory with this episode.

You know I personally call you when an event of great importance requires discussion on both blogs should both of us be covering it.

As cirno9fan said LioNina had gone beyond OTP into full on couple.

I’m still recovering..>I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready at all. I can’t believe…I can’t….But it happened. It did happen. It certainly happened. Happened it did.

now having had time to sort things out, a few important things to note, which brings up a theory:
    1. Mahiru was a horny beast
    2. Nina was not really sexual, but very very clingy
    3. Mizuki had zero change
    4. Everyone ate the same concotion that had the same thing happen to it
    5. Looking at the above, everyone’s reactions were different
So, this brings up the theory, that rather than just making them googly eyed for the “first person they see”, it’s more that their repressed feelings are brought into the open. Mizuki represses literally nothing and is 100% out in the open with how she feels, so that’s why there was no effect. It couldn’t do anything to her. And it seems that Mahiru wants to ravage Yayoi’s body. She certainly likes her, as she had zero “oh my gosh what did I just do? Why is Yayoi in my lap!??!” reaction, instead went “your hair is quite pretty” and was just as happy as before the effect wore off. Nina’s not something needed to be explained. Also,
    6. Lion reacted fully positive to love mode Nina. Yayoi freaked out, but Lion relished in it very quickly after the minute initial surprise wore off. Yayoi semed to be more okay with it after it went on long enough, but Lion was very quick to enjoy the chance to have a more loving NIna.

Oh, and finally, i think this is beyond “OTP” territory, and has hit straight into canonized couple ground

      Excellent observations.

Lion and Nina require no explanation as Lion’s love for Nina’s legit and Nina’s feelings are easy to understand now.

Mahiro could very well have a dormant desire for Yayoi.

Precisely why I described Mizuki and Yuko’s scene so simply. The moment I saw Yuko take the cupcake away I knew she’d bump into Mizuki and the cake would have no effect on her since as you said she openly expresses her love for her every single day.

      Liked by 2 people

    • philipbaxton says:

I see it more as not having any affect because she already loves Yuko. The cupcakes make the eater fall in love with the first person they see but Mizuki was already in love with Yuko so it had zero affect on her. That’s how I saw it.

  9. My reaction during this episode basically: As they were at the balcony talking about past events and such: “Huh, it’s episode 11 already…nice stuff so far, but nothing that amazing.”

Then: “DID THEY JUST? THEY JUST DID?! mind blank for a few seconds Have to go back after a few seconds to confirm that what I just witnessed/heard/saw indeed happened OH MY. OH MY. THIS IS MOST UNEXPECTED BUT MOST CERTAINLY WELCOME.

…And then we got to the Valentine’s bit and all pretense that this isn’t a Yuri show was thrown out the window.

So, basically…Nina x Lion installed a jet engine onto their ship, ignited it, and plowed right through Canon harbour.

Yayoi has a harem, and she’s okay with that, after a bit of getting used to the thought.

And Mizuki, (seemingly) unaffected by the Cupid arrows, yet not knowing of the Cupid arrows and their effect, once more chooses the absolute worst time to dramatically confess her feelings. Whyyy. Though she was a bit creepy earlier in the episode, so maybe it’s karma.

I agree with Cirno’s theory about the arrows effect, considering the differing effects the cupcakes had on each individual.

I do feel there might be some hope for the teachers and their relationship together yet indeed. That chocolate scene certainly seems to imply that the other teacher was “serious” about who she gives chocolates to, and that usually means something in a more romantic direction…

Last episode next week nooooooooo. I really, truly hope Mizuki either gets one last chance to confess and succeeds at it finally, or Yuko just realizes MIzuki’s feelings on her own somehow. Give best girl a chance! A real one! Even if she is occasionally really creepy about it!

  10. Mauron says:

You’re missing a “parents” in the Mahiro family caption.

First of all, Nina, you could still have done everything you planned for your time alone with Nina there! The comedy movie marathon without holding back, the solo comedy routine, the solo two-person comedy routine, an in-depth study of superstring theory… Maybe not that last one, but everything else, and it would have been even better with Lion there!

Nina and Lion continued to be great together. They had so many wonderful moments together this episode.

Mahiro’s curiosity excuse doesn’t work as well when she was staring right at Yayoi while taking a bite. Curiosity can be expressed with anyone, hidden feelings that you have a hard time sharing require a particular target.

In the recovery scene with Mahiro, Karin and Karen are restrained, while Mahiro is free to cuddle with Yayoi. I don’t see the two ninjas losing in a fight against Mahiro, but since they never ate the cupcake, I suspect Yayoi ordered them to restrain themselves, and never mention those orders afterwards.

As for the two teachers, has the kohai really expressed an interest in men? I know the senpai is always drooling over dates (overcompensation?), but the kohai usually seems a little jealous and smitten to me.

      Fixed.

True that but you know how Nina is. it’ll take a while longer before she’s that open with her girlfriend.

Yayoi and her harem are GLORIOUS! Mahiro’s definitely fighting to be her #1 though.

One more episode to go. Let’s hope for the best with the teachers.

Sure it was one of this unexpected yuri development BUT after all this they keep playing save, since Lion x Nina kiss was perfect for they star going out and then just use a simple excuse.
The first serie also had yuri kisses even thought was for Trance.

OH.MY.GOD. I can’t properly say anything. I was so surprised and was squealing all the time. I thought nothing can top the first half but the second half came in and I just died of happiness. I never expected that Lion x Nina will be canon but damn IT FREAKIN’ HAPPENED. I had to rewatch the whole episode just to take in everything. And hello to Yayoi’s harem. Mahiro sure showed her sexy side, Karen and Karin showed their true feelings. Yayoi is one lucky girl to have that harem.

  14. K says:

Well, this episode took me for a spin!

Nina was so ready for some alone time but Lion put a damper on that plan. She didn’t mind the extra company, though(hehe).

Kissing someone you deeply care about at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve is custom in Lion’s country, eh? Regardless of that, one thing needs to be said; NOICE, LION!!!!

In the Valentine’s segment, I agree with the observations cirnofan made. With that said, Mizuki did it! She was able to confess her love for Yuko…in the middle of a lovey-dovey panic so Yuko thought she was affected too. Oh Mizuki, you’ve tragically perfected the art of bad timing. Better luck next time!

Mahiro putting the moves on Yayoi was sweet! Karin and Karen pretended to protect their mistress but really they just joined Mahiro in giving Yayoi all the loving she could want.

So, the reactions went like this:
1.Lion kissed Nina – Nina was surprised but she was ultimately chill with it
    2. Nina snuggled up to Lion – Lion was surprised but she was very happy with that situation.
    3. Mahiro(and the twins) giving Yayoi their undivided attention – Yayoi was most uncomfortable but she eventually resigned herself to this development.
4.Mahiro recovering from Cupid’s spell – Nothing! No ounce of embarrassment from her at all. As expected, honestly.

Lion knew what she wanted and went for it like a lioness hunting her prey.

      Poor Mizuki.

Best girl is so lucky to have three cuties pining for her.

Couldn’t have summed it up better myself.

wow this might just be the yuriest of the recent “spinoff series”. So blissful.

lol genki girl can be quite the seducer when she puts her mind to it. Who woulda guessed?

About the teachers, Belle already knew the truth. Didn’t you see her smirk at the end?

From the start of this anime, I thought there would be just some yuri undertones as usual with shows like these. However, I was blown away by episode 11… they went full yuri!!! @_@

Even if it’s just something small… would try to buy a merchandise of this show from CDJapan. The producers should know that there are people who appreciate these kind of anime.

  18. Vogel100 says:

Eh, I heard this show went further in yuri than you’d expect, in the last two episodes specifically, but this is a lot less far than Illya has gone, and I enjoyed that show more overall (first three seasons). One of the mains who clearly loves another main while the rest stays ambiguous with lots of ship teasing between them. Illya goes further with both the canon character, where Miyu would possibly do literally anything to protect Illya, and with the teasing, with Kuro kissing every girl she sees with a lot more shown than in this episode. Also Illya dominating Miyu in that one episode, and Mimi’s claim that “girls should love girls”. Lots of Illya to Miyu moments in general.

Anyway, my point is I’ve seen it go further before. Maybe it would be surprising if I hadn’t heard beforehand that ships would become canon. But now I don’t really know what the hype’s about. No ships have gone canon yet imo. Maybe 12 changes it though, but I thought this was supposed to be the big one. I’ll watch it tomorrow.

It’s a good show though. Of course I wouldn’t have gone so far just for hope of yuri. So I’m not really disappointed, just don’t think the hype for yuri in this episode was deserved. But once again, 12 could still change it.
