New Game!! (Double Plus) Episode 7: New Temps

As expected the whole “we’re not hiring new employees this year” thing was a half-lie.

Nene being interviewed.jpg

Nene being interviewed.

I should have known the show would not keep me hanging. We got more than we could have asked for in this Nene job interview with Aoba and Umiko-kun.

Surpised Nene.jpg

It was a wonderful interview.

Nene applied for a job interview to become a part-time programmer at Eagle Jump. I won’t go into details but let’s just say this more than made up for not having a scene featuring Nene showing her finished game to Umiko-kun.

I eagerly await the thoughts of a certain person. She knows who she is. As usual I want full details on your reaction to this interview.

Relieved Aoba.jpg

Relieved Aoba.

After Nene and Umiko-kun finished discussing the terms for Nene’s employment she went to tell Aoba the good news and saw the PECO sketches. She knew right away the character art and Ko’s key visuals didn’t match and had a gut feeling they were designed by Aoba. Aoba told her she was the Internal Designer. Nene greatly complimented Aoba for her great work and moving up the ladder so to speak. Nene’s encouraging words lifted a heavy weight off of Aoba’s mind.

Christina bothered by the meeting.jpg

Christina bothered by what happened at the meeting.

We then went to a bar where Christina was revealed to have also disapproved of Ko being chosen for the key visuals when the character art was clearly Aoba’s. She’s also very worried about our heroines having a bad impression of her. Director Hazuki had a plan that would instantly change how everyone viewed her. Said plan was quite clever but I’ll leave viewers to see for themselves what it was.

Christina uncomfortable touching people.jpg

Christina isn’t comfortable with people touching her.

Christina's younger sister.jpg

Christina’s younger sister.

We learned that Christina’s half-French and has an issue with people touching her. Best to not ask why until the show gives a decent explanation…unless it had something to do with her family. Honestly I won’t give it too much thought. Anyway the ladies saw she wasn’t all bad and everything sort of worked out nicely.

Yun trying to hide the truth.jpg

Yun not ready to tell Hajime just yet.

Following that the wait for the remaining new girls’ debut would soon be over. The ladies discussed where the two newbies would be sitting and who may need to move to a new cubicle. The best reactions were Yun’s (seen above) and Hifumi’s towards their respective love interests.

Tsubame Narumi and Momiji Mochizuki.jpg

Tsubame and Momiji make their long-awaited debut.

Introducing Tsubame Narumi and Momiji Mochizuki, the new interns! Tsubame’s the upbeat one while Momiji’s timid, which reminded Aoba of a certain someone. We learned that Momiji (Momo for short) is also a huge Ko fan like Aoba before her. She could tell right away that something was odd about the key visuals and the internal art. Some peeps brought this up in the last episode about companies needing to be careful when it came to the key visuals. Super fans like Momo and even Nene could tell right away that something was odd. It’s cool how the show addressed that in this episode.

Interesting meeting.jpg

Rivals of sorts.

The newbies’ introduction was a most interesting one to say the least as Momo seemed to see Aoba as a rival, especially because while she didn’t exactly love the character designs she respected Aoba’s skills.

Christina and Hazuki commercial

So hot.

Looking forward to more from everyone as the second half of the 2nd season continues. We even got a new ED!

I just knew they had to have something good in store for us in regards to Nene and Umiko because otherwise, it wouldn’t have made any sense to have Umiko be so involved in the process of Nene making her game, but then not see the final result. I think we all knew this day would come, but it didn’t make it any less satisfying. Umiko was fooling no one with her formalities, as we all know she wants Nene to join the team. It was cute when she told her how she had high hopes for her. Support from the wife is the first step to a happy relationship XD. Anyway in seriousness, I look forward to seeing Nene grow and become a full member of the team.

The other newbies are really cute, especially the new programmer. I sense they may have come already boarded on their ship, but I guess we’ll see. Should be interesting to see the rivalry between Momo and Aoba as they become likely frenemies. Also, the reactions Yun and Hifumi had were adorable. Yun will get there eventually.

Finally, I don’t know if there’s anything viable there or not, but I kind of like the Hazuki x Christina ship that might have been hinted. If nothing else, they seem like they’re fun friends. Can’t wait to see more on our favorite Gayme makers and what the new additions will bring.

Oh yes. They kept us waiting and it was worth it. NeneUmi is love.

Keep that TsubaMomo ship in mind…I have a good feeling about them.

      Yun and Hifumi FIGHTO!

Dunno who to officially ship Hazuki with. She can hook up with anyone really. But since Umiko-kun is taken, sure. Perhaps Hazuki will be the one to break through Christina’s barrier.

The new characters entering the scene wasn’t AS disastrous as I thought it would be, although I do fear that some unruly radicals may try to ship Aoba and Momo like the tasteless heretics they are.

Tensions are definitely still high, and Aoba’s sadness hasn’t seceded quite yet, but things are steadily easing back into happy fun times.

There’s still some hope in my heart that we’ll actually get a canon yuri couple, but I fear that they’ll stop halfway instead and keep us knee-deep in subtext.

When I read this episode’s title, ‘I’m Sensing a Very Intense Gaze’ aloud, my brother thought I said ‘intense gays’. I mean, he’s not exactly wrong…
Nene’s interview was great, and I really liked seeing her wear a suit. A pretty great pay-off after seeing all of the effort Nene put into creating her game.
I’m looking forward to seeing what Tsubame and Momiji will bring to the show.

While it’s not a big deal, Nene’s position is a temp part time programmer rather than a full time debugger.

So, this was the episode in which Umiko helped her girlfriend get a job. … ❤
I just loved the moment where Nene had the “it’s a trap” mental image. She just knows her camouflage-loving lover so well~
I wonder why Christina’s sister was depicted to look so much like the director, when it was made clear her sister stayed in France… or were my subs missleading?

Hnn, I think I’m gonna like Tsubame. She might hit it off well with Hajime or work as a translator between her and Yun. Well, we’ll see. It’s a good start into the second half of this season – and I’m glad they haven’t forgotten about the bar nor Ko’s sleeping habits 😀

Christina’s younger sister from the back has a rather strong resemblance to someone else we know in the show.

  8. ArcaJ says:

Something tells me Momo is going to develop a belligerent crush on Aoba. I kind of want her to be crushed by Dominant Hifumi. Umiko is so devious! She used Aoba perfectly to throw Nene off her game. Umiko knew that once she looked into Nene’s earnest eyes, she’d melt into a puddle of pink Yuri goo, so she had Aoba there as a shield.
I think having Umiko recognize Nene’s potential was the best thing for her. She really wants to nurture her talent and watch it grow. That still doesn’t let you off the hook for a DATE!

Christina made a much better impression this time. I’m glad she’s not a soulless corporate drone. How can someone who doesn’t like being touched get along with Hazuki? She must have secret ninja skills.

Hifumi, once again, steps up her game and takes one for the team. I guess if she can’t stare lovingly at Aoba all day, she’ll have to do it after work. On a date. ^_^

      We shall see.

As I told KueKyuuQ NeneUmi know each other well by now. The whole segment was wonderful. And yes I predict the two will go on that date eventually.

A very interesting friendship between the megane babes I’d like to see explored some more.

Hifumi knows what she’s doing. Aoba will be hers.

I am so happy that Nene got the job. Umiko wants to keep Nene close to her. And also I’m shipping Hazuki with Christina. They’re cute together. Drunk Christina’s also cute. I like the newbies especially Momo. I have a thing for pink hair. She admire Ko-chan and she’ll admire Aoba too in no time. No one can denies Aoba cuteness. Ask Hifumi.

  10. As others have stated, I’m also on the Christina x Hazuki ship now…though I did get the idea that concerning Christina’s aversion to being touched, it might have started with her family, but I wonder if our lovable director might not have had something to do with worsening that aversion…would explain why Christina’s sister had such a strong resemblance to Hazuki in her mental image, and we do know that Hazuki might have been rather…enthusiastic in her greetings when the two of them first met…(Though it is also possible that Christina was concealing the real truth in her explanation: that her family didn’t really cause her that much trauma, but that Hazuki did, and that thus her mental image reveals the true culprit, even if the hair colour did seem different…)

UmiNene sails on and now they can get moments together at the company too! Hurray!

Good new additions to the cast, looks like. I doubt they’ll bother with the other ships all that much, having joined at the same time and basically already being a ship themselves.

So many cute moments aaah! Just what I needed to make me feel a bit better after some recents things that have happened near me, and some news I finally read last night regarding Fate/Extra’s anime adaptation/cast (basically, that there’ll be no Yuri apparently /cry) (Fem Hakuno is the only Master! I don’t know who that other Hakuno is! Grr!)

yeah, we’ll never get a fate anime with a yuri protag. it’s total bollucks that they always use a male protagonist. I don’t like the fate series to be very honest. Only Illya is worth it.

      • OG-Man says:

The Fate series consists of shows where more often than not the Servants (and some Masters here and there) are more interesting than most of the Masters, especially the main ones. As you said Magical Girl Illya is the only one worth rejoicing over around here.

        Liked by 1 person

      • Yeah, indeed. It just sucks because the Extra part of the Fate universe had the highest chance to have the first one, with the games having very high Yuri potential routes and both Nero and Tamamo being possibly canonically Bi, and the female Master (Hakunon) appearing in the first PV (and the Extra universe being maybe my favorite part of the franchise, above even Prillya (especially Extra, not quite maybe Extella))…but then we got key visuals and a 3rd PV and apparently…nope. Disappointment. Even though Hakunon (Fem Hakuno) is more popular than the male version of Hakuno among fans, they still went with the boring, “safe”, million-times-seen-before option.

        Liked by 1 person

      • I mean, Hakunon will probably apparently still appear in the anime version, but just not as protagonist, and with the only male Servant of Extra alongside her…so meh. I’ll probably root for her more than the male protagonist, but on the other hand, male protagonist Servant(s?) are the ones I like…/sigh.

Like I said I’m not going to put too much thought into figuring out the source of Christina’s social anxiety unless the show makes it an important plot point later.

      Much rejoicing was had.

Most of us watching only the anime suspect Momo will either fall for Aoba or TsubaMomo is already a thing. Most likely the latter methinks.

Shame about Fate/Extra not having a female Master as its protagonist.

Great to see the new girls finally showing up. I’d almost forgotten about them. I have yet to catch up in the manga so I didn’t know when they were going to arrive on the scene.

Good to see Nene landing that job interview. So happy she gets to work at the company now. Hopefully we get some more Umiko x Nene scenes in the coming eps.

Also enjoyed learning more about Christina. So far she’s just been this cute blonde girl with glasses, so it’s nice she also got some decent screen time this week. Also that eye-catch with Hazuki, so hot.

As always, great ep and I look forward to the next one.

Don’t read the manga myself. Prefer going into most shows blind.

      Hopefully so. They belong together.

Yes. It’s cool the writers addressed some questions left over from last time right away. Christina’s deal being one of them.

      Same here.

  12. K says:

Whoa, I didn’t expect Nene to work for Eagle Jump again so soon, even if it’s part-time. She did well in that interview and she was aware enough not to fall into that trap of familiarity. That was the sink or swim moment.

Ah, so Christina was bothered by that situation Aoba and Ko were put in and she thought the Character Design team would never like her. Hazuki’s clever idea made sure that wasn’t the case. Mozuku gets all the credit instead of her, though. Christina’s very professional when it comes to her job but she’s not always super serious. She’s good people.

The other two newbies are finally here! The Programming team will get some more screen time thanks to Nene and Tsubame, I bet. Momiji right now is basically Aoba when she first came to Eagle Jump with a dash of Hifumi and she already thinks of Aoba as a rival. She didn’t think too highly of Aoba’s visuals but she saw the effort put into them at least.

It’s nice that Nene decided to get an actual job in program. Maybe Umiko has to do something with that. ;p

Momo is a nice rival for Aoba. It’s funny how she believed Aoba’s last name as Suzumiya. Suzumiya Aoba no Yuuutsu anyone?
