Kiniro Mosaic Pretty Days: Breath of The Ayaya

I’ll do my best to talk about the Kiniro Mosaic special, Pretty Days, aka Breath of The Ayaya.

Young Aya.jpg

The special began with a short flashback of how Aya, aka The Ayaya first became friends with Shinobu, aka Shino. We already got a flashback of how The Ayaya fell in love with Yoko but we did get a very brief snippet of that magical time later on.

Back in present time it was 10+ minutes of seeing our beloved merry band of international high school lesbians from Japan and England doing what they did best while preparing for Shino’s big play coming up.

The #2 plot of the special centered around The Ayaya’s worries, mainly where she fit in Shino’s posse. Despite being Shino’s friend she hasn’t known her as long as Yoko and she isn’t a blonde like Alice and Karen and she wasn’t a kindred spirit like Honoka (okay I added the last one). Basically she didn’t see herself as a meaningful friend of Shino’s and thought that at some point Shino might forget about her.

While working on the big show Shino had to go on an errand with Isami. Alice and Karen took this time to ask Yoko, since she’s known Shino the longest, essentially how was Shino able to survive her middle school life without “the power of blonde” guiding her.

At the 15 minute mark the real main plot kicked in. Some of my peeps told me that the special was all about The Ayaya. While she is the central focus a more accurate description is that it’s about Shino, Yoko and The Ayaya’s last semester in middle school before graduating and how they worked together to pass their high school entrance exams. The studious Ayaya guiding Shino and Yoko to victory while she herself reflected on what she really wanted. Since we all know how it all ended in present time I need not go into detail about the flashback. It’s really good stuff and should be enjoyed by all fans.

The special concluded with Shino’s big show reminding everyone why we love Kiniro Mosaic. Also The Ayaya realized that even though she hasn’t known Shino as long as Yoko, is blonde like Karen and Alice or shares a similar passion like Honoka she’ll always be a special friend of hers. Long story short Kiniro Mosaic Pretty Days is a MUST WATCH for fans of the series and like the Yuyushiki Special will make fans want a new season even more after watching it. As an added bonus for peeps who remember the show or chose to watch the previous seasons again in preparation for the special it is littered with references of memorable moments throughout the season like Shino going Super Saiyan, The Ayaya’s alter ego and a certain doll.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention – immediately went and watched it, without regrets.
    Gosh, this was adorable!
I (almost) forgot how much I loved Karen – it’s not just her hair, the whole package is gold ❤

    Special notes:
Alice changing sleepy Shino’s clothes in the morning – I bet there’s a heavily censored doujin for that…
Dearest Youko is still a log XD (Or is she….?)
A shout out for Karasuma-sensei: “All hail the Totem Pole Fairies!”
Praise the golden wig! Princess Ayaya got her dance with her ‘prince’~

Thank you very much for covering KinMosa Pretty Days! Glad you enjoyed it!

I happened to watch it at the cinema, and I immediately knew you would love it as the main focus was on The Ayaya and her backstory with Shino and Yoko.

Nothing much to say on this one other than it’s great to see the Kiniro Mosaic cast again. Karen especially continues to be enjoyable. And I liked seeing how Aya became friends with Shino and Yoko.

If I were to make a few complaints though, it would be that I was disappointed there wasn’t as much focus on Aya’s love for Yoko. Plus I didn’t like how my favorite character, Honoka, didn’t get a whole lot of focus. But that’s just me being nitpicky. I’m sure I’ll get more of both of those when and if season 3 gets made. Overall, it really was enjoyable.

By the way, this is a little off topic, are you going to do a review of the Yuyushiki OVA?

Yet more of what makes kinmoza such a joy to watch!

I hope in the coming school year The Ayaya can overcome her “yaya curse” and muster the courage to confess to her crush.
