257th G-View: Bikini Warriors

A show about two of my favorite things in life, JRPGs and beautiful women wearing swimsuits. This is Bikini Warriors.

Genres: Comedy, Fantasy

Themes: Bishoujo, Parody, Ecchi, Bikini Armors

Number of episodes: 12 + 6 OVAs (4 minutes each)

G-Rating: 6/10 (2019 Update: 8/10. The 6 OVAs changed my life)

Plot Summary: A team of four brave women — Fighter (also the daughter of a legendary warrior who saved the country in the past), Paladin, Mage, and Darkelf — accept the quest of saving the world from destruction. In order to achieve the goal they have to barter with villagers and fight against numerous monsters in their sexy and scantily-clad bikinis.

Bikini Warriors scene

BW is, simply put, a comedy starring scantily clad women going on adventures and getting into trouble based on different JRPG and to an extent Western RPG tropes while usually bickering or being picky. Some examples include “buying armor that increases one’s stats but look exactly the same as the old one”, “entering NPC’s (Non-playable characters) houses and looting hidden items located within” and “selling seemingly useless items when the inventory gets full”.

While the show has lowbrow written all over it it is at least honest, meaning that it knows exactly who the show’s target audience is and does not apologize for its silliness. For that I cannot blame it for existing. Rather than get upset after watching it out of curiosity viewers should instead ask themselves “What was I expecting from an anime entitled BIKINI WARRIORS?” The show is basically the “Teen Titans Go!” of Queen’s Blade, except not as annoying as TTG. The fanservice is the same as QB’s though.

Not much to say about the four leading ladies or their personalities. They get SOME development but those segments are seconds long. The best way I can describe each warrior is the following: Fighter is a hothead who sometimes comes off as the smartest, Paladin has a refined tone but is actually super horny, Mage is the “cute one”…I guess, Darkelf is a wannabe badass who talks a big game but is no better than her peers. Actually my favorite woman in both looks and personality is none of the four but one of two women introduced later on in the show, Hunter. Sweet sexy Hunter.

Lowbrow yuri

There is some yuri to be found but it is mostly lowbrow Grade 4 stuff that should not be taken seriously. Hot but meaningless is what I am saying.

Overall Bikini Warriors is what it is. Despite it being lowbrow I cannot help but enjoy it the same way I enjoyed Kampfer. Both are dumb but hit my “guilty pleasure” bar inĀ  a way I cannot quite explain. It’s like a parody of JRPGs if it were presented in a similar fashion as Queen’s Blade. Whoever is interested feel free to give it a go, as few of you as there are.

2019 Update: A second viewing (especially with the discovery of the 6 extra OVA episodes) years later changed my view of the show, making me appreciate it more than I initially did. The stuff I disliked, the other fetishes, were still there but the good overall outweighed the bad.

I was debating this show, but you’ve convinced me that there’s no reason really for me to watch it. At least it’s very forward with what it is.

This would have been better if it was longer, but good all around.

This anime is horribly shameless and I enjoyed every minute of it. I think much of humor lends itself to poking fun at the countless tropes that have synonymous modern day RPGs.
My favorite character, by far, is Fighter and I will not apologize for shipping her with Paladin (then again the episode that introduced Valkyrie and Hunter I was shipping them by the end).
I’m hoping for this anime to get a second season but honestly won’t hold my breath.

It was dirty, shameless and oh-so delicious.
      Pretty much.
Fighter X Paladin is the likeliest ship of the four main leads. The yuri is not to be taken seriously but it can’t hurt to ship.
It’s likely Hunter and Valkyrie became a couple by the end of their debut episode.
      Highly unlikely.

I…actually don’t think I could have watched this as a yuri alone.

As a jrpg parody, it added a whole new level to it. Sad as it seems, I was impressed by the depth and disguised snarky parody humour…

Or maybe it was because I had zero expectations and didn’t mind wasting 4mins of my life. God dammit, I could probably make an anime review blog, rate literally everything this year “eight” of ten, and explain the only diff in rating is what you expected!

the PLOT is awesome for a 4-minute show! All that’s missing, is a Skyrim joke XD
