The Inspector Green Tag

So I got tagged by King Kai along with The Silver Chief and Lord Lazarynth to participate in another questionnaire party. I have been asked to participate in others but if some are too difficult for me to respond I apologize for not participating. In the meantime let’s give this one a shot as I am certain I can AT LEAST answer these questions. Like my colleagues I have no idea where the “inspector green tag” thing originated from.

Hanayamata wall 2

1. When was the last time you went to a store containing anime?

Eight years ago there used to be a local video store that rented anime DVDs but it eventually closed shop. Since then I have not been to a single anime themed store or store that sold anime goods because there aren’t any in Aruba.

2. Do you usually watch anime online? On what website?

When I want to legally support a show I go to Crunchyroll but that site has slowly fallen from grace recently because of its localization streams. I do not get it myself, the whole “only being able to stream the anime in certain countries” thing. Worst part is that the shows being restricted are usually the ones I want to watch. Other than that I mainly download my anime.

3. First Japanese word you learned from an anime?

17_anime_tenchou

“NANI!?”, from the hyperactive anime shop owner from Lucky Star. Funny how I got that before “Tenchou”.

4. Best animation style in your opinion?

SHAFT trademark

SHAFT because it is the easiest to recognize. See, when it comes to media I rarely pay attention to which studio produces an anime or the track record of the director/staff involved. When a reviewer mentions something like “P.A. Works’ anime are top notch in animation quality” or “Ugh, this anime is going to suck because Studio Deen will produce it.” Such things do not matter to me so long the shows I picked up are good. Back to SHAFT and it being easy to recognize. Besides their montage worthy amount of head tilts SHAFT has numerous other quirks like their distinct camera motions, dialogue heavy productions and treadmill walkways, shows animated by this company have a distinct quirkiness to them that appeal to me, even though one of their seasons made me hate the studio and otakudom for a time. I would have picked MADHOUSE but I only acknowledged them recently because of Hanayamata and No Game No Life for the glorious amount of purple used. Don’t know if that’s a trademark of their studio. I doubt it.

5. Best anime pet?

Menchi

Menchi from Excel Saga. This dog’s life…good gravy. How it survived for so long is a miracle. Also it even had a theme song which it sings. Good stuff.

6. What is the longest anime you’ve ever watched?

Dragonball-Dragonball GT, if that counts.

7. What is the shortest anime you’ve ever watched?

Short anime like Teekyuu, Inugami-san and Nekoyama-san and Morita-san wa Mukuchi whose episodes are all less than 5 minutes.

8: What is your Favorite anime couple?

Haruka and Yuu's special moment

I’d love to skip this one as the number of yuri pairings I like is huge. I guess I’ll answer Haruka X Yuu from Sakura Trick. Cuteness galore.

I guess that’s it.

I’m tagging these lovely people to participate should they wish to do so:

Señor Frog

The Fox and the Jun-chan

Macho Chikorita

As a bonus because I’d like to see what this fine lady has to say:

Sous Chef Marina-chan

What do you think of Hayao Miyazaki’s opinion that “anime was a mistake” because there’s “now only a bunch of otakus in the industry”?

One of those “back in my day” rants. He Does make some valid points but in the end it’s another one of those “anime is dying” interviews. I’m sure another one will pop up sooner or later.

Lol I was looking for that shaft compilation of characters lifting their heads, it’s like one of their favorite body language gestures when character is talking.

You’re from Aruba? Assuming you mean the island, that’s pretty cool ^_^ Living on a bigger island doesn’t mean I have much more in the way of anime shops though =/

Of the SHAFT anime i’ve watched (and I haven’t watched many), i’ve seen both good and bad examples of animation. I loved some of the effects in Madoka Magica, while Ef’s animation really rubbed me the wrong way.

That dog looks awfully like a cat >.>

Yup, the island. It’s on my About page. Funny how many people do not notice that.

Planned on picking up Ef at one point but changed my mind later on.

If you decide to pick up Excel Saga at some point I wish you the best of luck…really.

Let’s just say it involves money. For both JP and CR. I’ll leave it at that, but add that yes, it’s very silly to have these region locks.

    Also, NOT GT!!!

You know what? Aruba sounds a lot like my town.

“Nani?” indeed. I wonder what will Stone Cold Steve Austin sounds like when he says “What?” in Japanese.

And yea. Shaft’s animation style is definitely one of the most recognizable style.

Nice to see some more love for “Haruka X Yuu”.

It’s a fun little tropical island. Drop by sometime.

Maybe Austin would have said “EH?” or “ARE?” If he did say “NANI?” it would have been sweet.

      Indeed.

Rooting for Harupoppo to win Superstar of the Year or at least ST’s best couple.

The usage of purple is the noblest of ways to measure the worth of something.

But yeah, Shaft definitely creates some of the most fun to watch animes out there. For me it’s a close call between them and Trigger, especially after Little Witch Academia showed what Trigger can do with enough money.
