Anime Openings and endings…there’s something inexplicably glorious about the beat, rhythm and the way the singers let out their voice. Also, after so many years of listening to anime songs, I still barely understand the lyrics nor do I care to look up their meaning. I just sit back and enjoy the beat. The following are just a few of the hundreds of songs I’ve enjoyed listening to in my life, so far.
Also, I do hope the Youtube Vids last long enough for you all to listen to the songs in case you have yet to do so.
I’ll do my best to explain why I like these songs but do not expect detailed descriptions. For obvious reasons, not all these songs have Youtube clips, you’ll just have to look them up on Gendou or something. Trust me, based on earlier experience, it’s best to simply have readers search for the songs themselves.
Listening to this song relaxes me and fills me with energy at the same time. 6 minutes of my life well spent listening to the vocalists sing their hearts out and the accompanying tune.
Watching the opening, the viewer would initially expect an action packed adventure starring four lesbian monster princesses…until the viewer sees the title logo. It also helps that the song is made of pure awesomeness.
“We’re Not Alone” from Rainbow-Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin
I REALLY need to review this anime and show people once and for all how great it is. I simply MUST explain why it is one of my all time favs. I need to watch it again before doing so, however, as I cannot miss a single note. As for the song, it’s in English and that scream rocks my socks off every time.
“Kanashii hodo Aoku” from Sasameki Koto.
While SnW’s song both relaxes me and pumps me up with energy, this one simply relaxes me and, like MP’s OP, can mislead viewers into expecting something different.
“Shoujo meiro de Tsukamaete” from Strawberry Panic
First of all, the first OP is better than the second one. Second, I simply have to mention this song because it’s kinda badass and also from the very first 100%/ Grade 1 yuri anime (Cliche phrase in the Yuri Nation but it’s true) I saw.
re-sublimity from Kannazuki no Miko
The Legend of ChiMeko will never die and neither will this kick ass OP.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni 1st OP
This song is proof that we are not alone in this universe.
Lilium from Elfen Lied
A show and song that me and my old high school broskis will never, ever forget. That is reason enough that both this song and the anime are one of my all time favorites.
My childhood. Nuff said.
Lost Child from Mouretsu Pirates
While Mugen no Ai is an upbeat song and also great to listen to, Lost Child sounds…better to me. It’s hard to explain why exactly. It just flows better with me.
Sketch Switch from Hidamari Sketch
My favorite song from my #1 Slice of Life series of all time. Also, I immediately smile whenever I hear the popcorn pop like clapping.
Only My Railgun from To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
Friends from Dance in the Vampire Bund
The song from the show that introduced me to the woman I am still in love with to this day, Aoi Yuuki. It’s also a song that reminds me that good vampire romance stories do exist.
That darn piano.
Both English and Japanese versions of the 1st Nichijou OP
You know, it took me 3 years to figure out that this show was produced by KyoAni along with K-ON and you know what…I still don’t give a damn about KyoAni’s reputation.
Shiki no Uta from Samurai Champloo
It’s tough to pick between the also good OP but like Mouretsu Pirates, SC’s ED won me over with its excellent vocalist, Minmi.
The Light Before we Land from Gunslinger Girl
This song is hauntingly beautiful. I guess it has to do with both the beat and The Delgados’ female vocalist.
Motto Aishiaimasho from Morita-san wa Mukuchi
I’m surprised one of my fans remembers I love this song. Anyway, thanks Gisei.
I think that should do for now. Like I said, there are plenty of great anime songs out there but these are the ones that stick to me most of all.
