OG’s top 10 fav Yuri manga he’s read

This pic has nothing to do with the main topic. I’m just plugging the oh so awesome PSN fighter Arcana Heart 3. For anyone who has a PS3 and have downloaded this game, I await all challengers.

Back to business. On this most joyous of holidays I figured I’d post my picks for best yuri manga I’ve read recently. This list is, like all my lists, based on favoritism and has nothing to do with the opinion of the general public. If other sites have a similar list it’s purely coincidental. Ahem, without further ado let’s begin. One last thing, it’s a random list not from least good to best.

#1: Girl Friends.

Volumes: 5

Chapters: 35

Let’s begin with an obvious choice that every single yuri fan or those curious of this glorious genre should read or have read. GF is the epitome of good yuri reading. There’s something adorable and epic about the developing relationship between Mari and Akko. Also their two good buddies Satoko and Tamami are quite the duo that will have you scratching your heads and ask yourselves, “are they or aren’t they?” This manga has been rated #1 by numerous yuri fans so you know it’s one of the very best out there.

#2: Octave.

Volumes: 6

Chapters: 36

As far as realistic lesbian relationships go, next to Love my Life, you can’t get any better than Octave. For those who have watched the classic Telenovela-esque anime, NANA, it has a similar feel to it. You’ll get many instances of temptation, sexual curiosity (What does a winky feel like for example), questioning relationships, loyalty, coming out of the closet, etc. It’s that deep.

#3: Gokujou Drops

Volumes: 3

Chapters: 16

Hoooo BABEH, this one’s STEAMY! Think a more extreme version of Maria-sama ga Miteru and you’ve got this bad girl of a manga. Join the blossoming masochist Komari as she searches for a dorm and ends up in Paraso no Yakata where she meets her future soul mate/mistress, Yukio himemiya and her merry band of “playful” neighbors. Those who are worried that this will be nothing but PG-13 love scenes, fear not for there is much more to this erotic tale than just pie eating contests.

#4: Iono, the Fanatics

Volmues: 2

Chapters: 12+omakes and bonus stuff.

Iono-sama, the queen who solidified the fact that a woman can have an all girl harem too. Very few women in anime or manga have the same power Iono has and her quest to find as many sobame as possible is quite a treat indeed. What’s surprising that although Iono is definitely a pervert, she is by no means a wench. Iono can not only manage all the women whose hearts she’s earned but also satisfy them. It’s hard to explain. To put it simply, think Morits-san wa Mukuchi anime, except Mayu Morita is a prodigy of Iono’s.

#5: Strawberry Shake Sweet

Volumes: 2

Chapters: 17+ bonus chapters.

This is one of those love comedies where you’ll have to wait a bit before the arrows finally hit their mark and both contestants realize how they feel for one another, It’s still a funny ride and compared to Sasameki Koto it isn’t prolonged and drawn out. No offense to SK since it’s a good manga as well but not one of my favs.

#6: First Love Sisters

Volumes: 2

Chapters: 13+ Bonus chapters

Simple, fluffy, straightforward and easy to follow. It’s your basic kouhai falls in love with sempai and it’s reciprocated deal and it’s really sweet. There are some surprises in this one so even though it isn’t a major shocker of a story it’s still worth your time.

#7: Chirality

Volumes: 3

Chapters: 21

Action, sci-fi and yuri. What more can you ask for? Be careful though, there’s some gender bending from our warrior female lead but it’s not as bad as you think. The male half exists for other purposes outside of romantic ones. The romance is primarily between the original female half and the woman she loves and protects with her life. Pretty instense stuff. Also of all the manga on my list, this is the most extreme when it comes to love scenes…or maybe it’s PG-13 as well.

#8: Blue Friend Seasons 1 and 2

Season 1: Chapters: 7 + 1 grand finale

Season 2: ongoing

My pick for major drama, 2nd only to Octave’s. For a more detailed empahsis of what to expect from this one, visit Listless ink and check out Yi-san’s review of this sucka.

#9: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter

Volumes: 1

Chapters: 11

3 couples (One adult), seductive training and one epic climactic battle with a mega punch to settle things. So much stuff in 11 chapters worth of content.

#10: Moonlight Flowers

Volumes 2

Chapters: I forgot.

If you’ve ever watched the movie, “Imagine me and You”, this manga’s plot is somewhat similar, except more serious and intense. No teenage girls here, it’s two adult women falling in love all over again with a male 3rd wheel to spice things up in a negative way for them.

Well, there you have it, the 10 manga I’ve enjoyed reading most. I’ll be making a followup post with some honorable mentions you’ll also enjoy reading but these are the 10 I highly recommend everyone check out. Take care, spike/wash your hair and keep on rockin’ doods. Stay tuned for more Fall anime G-Views.

Happy Holidays doods and peeps!

I can never thank you enough for introducing me to me to Girlsfriend. I am just enjoying that title, so much and I am not even hardcore into Yuri. Think I just made a conversion. I do plan to read Octave in the future and might check out Gokujou Drops.

Wondering if the great Yuri master could find some good titles to recommend me from this list: http://www.lililicious.net/allprojects.php

Overlord-G, try reading “Maka-maka” Kinda intense but sweet.

I did read Maka-Maka. The sex scenes were pretty good and the relationship the two women have is an interesting one. Unfortunately it didn’t sell well enough to continue. I liked it, but not that much.

A good list. There are a couple here I’d rate lower than a couple of my faves–go figure, tastes differ. Like for me, any top ten list would have to include Hanjuku Joshi, Chatting at the Amber Teahouse, and probably Pieta, but wouldn’t have to include Strawberry Shake Sweet (although I know lots of people are quite into it) or Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.
A couple I haven’t read and it looks like I should check out.

Let’s see. Hanjuku Joshi is fun, Amber Teahouse is one of Fujieda’s best work and Pieta covers a very interesting subject matter. Strawberry Shake Sweet will probably be replaced soon enough but not Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

OG, there are several good yuri Touhou doujin too at dynasty-scans. I love Yukari Yakumo, so I read Rireba, Personal Color, That Other Crowd/Yukataro, and Visionnerz’s works. They make wonderful yukari and yuri story. And also Organic Compund’s for some slaptick YukaRei.
Tell me your opinion when you finished reading them 🙂

Hmm, I guess I’ll post some Yuri Manga Corner Episodes of Touhou Doujin sometime in the future. Thanks for the recommendations. By the way, I’m a Patchouli Knowledge guy myself.

I love and hate NANA so bad. I pick it up thinking what I thought it was but then it’s not. The amount of subtext or just my pure curiosity is just off the roof. I wanted them to be together so bad, too bad it’s not Yuri T^T. I found out the current-ending-ish (because I can’t resist the temptation of knowing it’s Yuri or not). I did not end up reading it again, but the urge to read it is just as bad, I’m not picking it up again but I know it won’t be what I imagined when I first picking it up. -sigh-

tl;dr : the bottom line is…WHY IS NANA NOT A YURI MANGA?! I read the first few chapters and the amount of implication drove me crazy.

I know how it feels to want something badly and then having reality hit you in the face with the opposite of what you wanted. It hurts.

It got very popular too. Do you ever think (if you have read) that maybe at first the author intended it to be a Yuri manga but then it got really popular so she didn’t for the general fanbases? -sigh-

Maybe. Right now it’s another one of those “Would’ve, could’ve, should’ve” deals. What’s done is done. Besides, I like what we got from NANA. It wasn’t yurirific, but it was still really good imo.

Yeah, the author is really keeping us on the edge isn’t she? I’m putting it on hold until I get over the fact that it isn’t Yuri (for now at least). NANA is the reason why I picked up manga lol, I read it years ago then for some reason I remember it again and I start reading it thinking it’s what it was lol. I think it’s a def good first time experience haha w/ manga

Do you have any Yuri magma suggestion that it’s similar (at least) with NANA? I’ve looked through some of your manga list & pick up a few good read 🙂

Citrus is probably my most anticipating manga atm, I regret picking it up now because the waiting is -sigh- painful.

No hoshikawa ginza district 4?? (I hope I remembered that title correctly lol) that is by faaaaaaaaaaar my fav. Like seriously. If that manga were made into an anime, I would die happy. Period. Its not even that age gap is my fav, though it is lol, (there’s to little of it too Q_Q) but the perfect blend of comedy and yuri in that manga. For some reason I didn’t feel otome’s love that strongly, though it was certainly there. But sensei’s love towards otome was just enthralling to me. I almost cried when sensei ran all the way home cuz she pictured otome sitting in the dark eating alone 8P. Im making myself want to re-read it right now lol, but ima go check out blue friends. Fsr I’ve seemed to have missed that on dynasty reader. Anyways thx as always, your a huge help for my leisure time 🙂
