60th G-View: Seitokai Yakuindomo

Hello and welcome to G-Views, where SoL reigns supreme, moe is respected and Dokuro-chan sucks poopie. This show is living proof that sex jokes CAN actually be funny throughout each episode. This means that even though sex jokes are one of this shows main selling points, it doesn’t get old because they do it right. So let’s get right “into” it with Seitokai Yakuindomo.

Genres: comedy, slice of life
Themes: Dark Comedy, dirty jokes, perverted female character, School Life
Number of episodes: 13+1OVA
G-Rating: 8/10

Plot Summary: Takatoshi is a new student in a recently gender-integrated high school, and is asked to join the student council as the vice president. Thus begins his days as the only normal boy among 3 female student council officers.

The thing that makes this concept work is the following:
-the replies to each joke. In my opinion, this is very important. You see, it doesn’t have to be an insulting comeback or a punch to the face or cursing, no, the reply has to fit the joke and be humorous at the same time. Basically the king of these replies is our male lead. I can’t help but always pay attention to hear what kind of comeback he has against the jokes.

-However, the show wouldn’t be completely funny if it relied only on sex jokes. Nope, this show has other comedic weapons at its disposal, provided due in part to the characters’ separate personalities. As always on the G-Views, characters will either make or break the show regardless of it having a winning formula in its hands.

-The fact that this show has less “bathroom break” moments than Seitokai no Ichizon. That is a major plus.

Takatoshi Tsuda
Voiced by: Shintaro Asanuma
The main character of the story, he chooses to attend a former all-girl school simply because it is close to his home. The first day at the school, he is forced to join the student council as vice president and male representative. He normally acts as a tsukkomi to Shino and Aria’s perverted innuendo and comments, and becomes so used to it that he would actually feel odd if they did not make such jokes. The master of sex joke comebacks. even though he doesn’t suffer physically like Key-kun from Seitokai no Ichizon, he does suffer mentally from having to endure constant sex jokes and situations over and over.

Shino Amakusa
Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa
The student council president and a second-year student. She is serious and diligent, and talented in most subjects. However, she is almost always thinking of perverted things, even suggesting that one of her main reasons to be interested in Tsuda is curiosity about information not covered in health classes. She is also a very popular girl with a lot of female fans in school, and has a complex about her chest, which is exacerbated by the fact that Aria happens to be more well-endowed than she is. Sometimes I wonder just how perverted this beauty can be? Does her mind know no bounds?

Aria Shichijō
Voiced by: Satomi Satō
Also a second-year student and Shino’s best friend. She is the most mature character in appearance, and comes from a wealthy family. However, her mind tends to follow the same paths as Shino, possibly more so. She is airheaded at times, as a consequence of being too rich. Being more well-endowed than her fellow student council members exacerbates Shino’s complex about her chest. If only she were a lesbian. Oh well, you can’t win them all. She’s cool all the same.

Suzu Hagimura
Voiced by: Sayuri Yahagi
A first-year, 16-year-old (17 later in the manga) genius return student with an IQ of 180. She is the most mature of the characters, but she is very sensitive about her body, which still appears to be that of an elementary school student. Many of the jokes involving her focus on her childish appearance, and causes her to fly in a rage whenever it is mentioned. Other jokes involve the camera often being so high, that only 1/5 or sometimes less of her head appears on screen, requiring pointers to show where Suzu is standing.

There are other characters, but there’s only 1 in my eyes who truly deserves to be mentioned.

Ranko Hata
Voiced by: Satomi Arai
A member of the school’s photography club, who has a habit of taking photos of the student council members to sell around the school, usually without the knowledge of those being photographed and occasionally faked. She often tends to get caught. She is given a dead-pan, monotone voice in the anime, which strongly contrasts with the other girls’ excitable temperaments. Why is Satomi Arai so awesome to me? Maybe I find girls with adult like voices cool and funny at the same time, probably because I know one in real life.

The music on this show fits the humorous feel of the anime perfectly. My personal favorites are both the OP and ED themes, Suzu’s theme and anything that sounds like a roll call (Basically the songs that have drums in them or trumpets).

The animation is cute overall. Not too moe, nor too fanservicey, it’s just right for a comedy show. They tend to switch their animation style from normal to chibi. It doesn’t detract from the show’s goodness.

In conclusion, I suppose that this show isn’t for everyone. You must have “dirty ears” in order to survive this one. I don’t recommend this show to saints. However, since this is an otaku nation, that shouldn’t be a problem. Anyway, check it out when you have the time.

I’m fond to this shows last season. Very amusing in a different way… Maybe I am having a dirty ears. This series are just right as you mention, well balance comedy, no overly fanservice and the girls are nice to look at… Well, I’m really hoping for the second season of this series.

This show will never cease to make me smile. Then again, I like these kinds of comedies (I’m just a vulgar person). Although I wouldn’t consider it a family-friendly show, somehow I don’t feel so bad watching this one. Maybe its just the way the use their jokes, and the responses to said jokes.
Also, I really like the ED. HAI! HAI! HAI!

Keep in mind that both delivery and execution matter when it comes to shows that heavily rely on dirty humor, let alone a show whose entire premise is based around dirty jokes. Otherwise, you’ll get The Hangover 2: Overrated piece of crap.

thinks for the some up I was making sure that it had no sex scenes because I don’t like that crap
