26th G-View: Baka to Test to Shōkanjū

Hello and welcome to G-Views, where SoL reigns supreme, moe is respected and Dokuro-chan sucks poopie. What do you get when you make a plot about a war for school supremacy between classes ranging from best to worst, which is fought using chibi summon creatures, with RPG combat rules added? You get a hilarious show that uses every single school anime cliche you can think of and actually does it well.

Alternative title:
Baka and Test – Summon the Beasts
The Idiot, the Test and the Summoned Beast
Genres: comedy, fantasy, romance
Themes: School, school war
Number of episodes: 12+2 OVAs
G-Rating: 8/10

Fav characters on the show: Yuuji and Shouko. Their awesomeness is simply undeniable.
I can’t stop enjoying Yuuji constantly trying to survive Shouko’s jealous rage and Shouko is no slouch in the beauty dept either. My fav episode in the entire anime season is the date episode between these two.

Akihisa is funny when he’s suffering.

Minami is boring to me. Maybe because I’ve seen so many hotheads who are violent towards the main character, yet hide their romantic feelings from them.

Himeji is an adorable and busty babe who has lethal cooking skills.

Hideyoshi…well I think he’s a spoof on traps and fans of traps just like Minami is a spoof on violent hotheaded girls.

Minami is, like I said, a hotheaded girl who often inflicts major damage on the male lead, ala wrestling moves, yet obviously has romantic feelings for him. Personally, she’s my least favorite character on the show. Actually I don’t care for her that much.

Voyeur/Mutsurini is also cool. The fact that he’s a pervert and can get away with it because even though the girls on the show attack other boys with rage, Mutsurini seems to be either ignored or not considered a threat, outside the battlefield that is.

By battlefield I am of course referring to the school summon battle system itself, which is basically an RPG-esque combat style, with chibi-fied versions of the characters who summoned the beings. My fav being the group of angry reaper dorks.

The character I feel the most sorry for in the series is the lesbian. Why must they spoof the obsessed yuri type character as well? It’s not right.
Oh well, at least they’re spoofing a yaoi character as well.

Akira Yoshii, I wonder what it would be like if I had an incestuous sister as hot as her?

Overall a super funny show that I can’t help but laugh every single episode. It has so many cliches and character types you’ve seen before, but it still manages to make good use of them and get everyone to smile and laugh their butts off.
